Many of us are preparing our grills and getting out the beach towels for the 4th of July. But is your dog ready for the holiday?

One way to help your pet be prepared for the Fourth of July is to expose him or her to loud noises and see how they react. Many animals can become scared when they hear fireworks or other disruptive sounds.

Provide pets with safe hiding spaces inside your home during the holiday fireworks as you would for a storm. Dogs and cats who are comfortable in crates can find them a good place to ride-out the noise, especially if the crate is put in a quiet, darkened part of the house.

Make sure your pet’s nervous system isn't a casualty of Independence Day. If nothing else, keep your pet inside until the celebrations are over.
